Riverbend Apartments had about 600 units. It was located in the Cumberland area of Atlanta. The complex got its name because it overlooked a bend in the Chattahoochee River.

How Riverbend Apartments Began

The complex was built in the early 1970s by a company called Crow, Pope & Land Enterprises. During the 1970s, Riverbend became a very popular spot for young adults in Atlanta. It was known for its lively social scene, with many parties and gatherings in its clubhouse and around the pool.

Changes Over Time

By the late 1970s, new laws were passed. These laws made it illegal for apartment complexes to ban children. As a result, the social scene at Riverbend began to change. Many residents got married or moved to newer apartment buildings.

Over the years, the complex was redesigned and updated. It is now known by a different name: "Walton on the Chattahoochee."
