The Rivière de la Fourche (which means "River of the Fork" in English) is a river located in Quebec, Canada. It flows through several towns. These include Saint-Philémon, Notre-Dame-Auxiliatrice-de-Buckland, and Armagh. All these towns are part of the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
The Fourche River is a smaller river. It joins the Rivière du Sud (Montmagny). The Rivière du Sud then continues its journey. It eventually flows into the mighty St. Lawrence River.

Why is it Called "River of the Fork"?
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? The study of place names is called toponymy. The Rivière de la Fourche got its name because of how it starts.
The River's Beginning
The river begins where three smaller waterways meet. These are the Rivière des Orignaux, Milieu stream, and Beaudoin stream. When these three streams come together, they form a shape that looks like a fork. Imagine a fork on a map, with its handle pointing towards the northwest. That's why it's called the "River of the Fork"!
Official Naming
The name "rivière de la Fourche" was officially recognized. This happened on September 11, 1987. The Commission de toponymie du Québec is the group that makes these names official.
