Ronnie James Tucker, known as Ro James, is a talented American R&B singer. He became famous for his song "Permission" released in 2015. This song was very popular, reaching high on the music charts. Ro James signed with ByStorm Entertainment, which is part of RCA Records, to release his first album called Eldorado in 2016.

Ro James's Music Journey

Early Life and Start in Music

Ro James was born in Stuttgart, West Germany. His family background includes Panamanian and African-American roots. Growing up, Ro James loved to sing all the time, but he was shy and never sang in front of others.

Later, he moved to New York. There, his aunt, Rosie Gaines, who used to sing for the famous musician Prince, became a big influence on him. Ro James loved Prince's album Purple Rain so much that it inspired him to go into a music studio when he was 19.

He started developing his skills as a songwriter. One of his first songs was "Portrait." He even helped write the song "Use Me" for R&B singer Miguel. They became friends after connecting on MySpace.

Releasing His Music

Ro James performed in New York City alongside other artists like Luke James and Wynter Gordon. In 2013, he released his first collection of songs, called an EP (Extended Play), titled Coke, Jack and Cadillacs. This EP had three parts, and each part represented important moments in his life: his first love, his first drink, and his first car. Songs like "A.D.I.D.A.S." and "Pledge Allegiance" were on this EP. Another artist, Asher Roth, was also featured on the song "Lisa."

In 2015, Ro James signed with ByStorm Entertainment and RCA Records. This was a big step for him! Soon after, he released "Permission," which was his first song from a major record label. It quickly became a hit, reaching number 37 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

His first full album, Eldorado, came out on May 27, 2016. It did very well, reaching number 71 on the US Billboard 200 chart and number eight on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Because of this success, he received his first nomination for Best R&B Performance at the 59th Grammy Awards in February 2017.
