Diana Gordon, also known by her former stage name Wynter Gordon (born August 25, 1985), is an American singer and songwriter. She was born in Queens, New York City. Diana started her music journey by writing songs for other artists. Later, she signed with Atlantic Records to create her own music.

Her first album, With the Music I Die, came out in 2011. The main song from this album, "Dirty Talk", became very popular. It earned triple platinum in Australia and platinum in the United Kingdom, meaning it sold a lot of copies! In 2016, she decided to use her birth name, Diana Gordon. Since then, she has released extended plays (EPs) like Pure (2018) and Wasted Youth (2020).

Diana Gordon has also helped write and sing backup vocals for many famous songs. These include "Sorry" by Beyoncé, "Electricity" by Silk City and Dua Lipa, and "Bad Habit" by Steve Lacy. More recently, she sang on several songs for Lil Yachty's album Let's Start Here (2023).

Early Life and Music Dreams

Diana Gordon was born on August 25, 1985, in Queens, New York City. She grew up in South Jamaica and was the middle child of six siblings.

Diana started singing when she was very young. She and her brothers and sisters often performed together in church. When she was in high school, Diana decided she wanted to have a career in music. She was accepted into the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. This is a famous school for young artists. She also worked as an intern at a record company. Diana wrote her first full song, "Daddy's Song," when she was 15. She has said that writing songs was a way for her to express herself and build a better future.

Music Career Journey

Starting Out (2004–2010)

Diana Gordon worked closely with a music producer named D'Mile starting in 2004. Her first big song, "Gonna Breakthrough," was written by her and produced by D'Mile. This song was used as the title track for Mary J. Blige's 2005 album, The Breakthrough. Soon after, Diana got the chance to sign with Atlantic Records. She began working on her first album in 2004.

In 2008, Diana wrote two songs for Danity Kane's album Welcome to the Dollhouse. These songs were "2 of You" and "Do Me Good." She also helped write and sang on the hit song "Sugar" with rapper Flo Rida. This song was on his album R.O.O.T.S. (2009). "Sugar" became a worldwide hit and reached number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Diana also co-wrote and sang on the dance track "Toyfriend" from French DJ David Guetta's album One Love (2009). She worked closely with Jennifer Lopez, writing four songs for her album Love? (2011).

First Album Success (2011–2013)

Diana Gordon released her first album, With the Music I Die, on June 17, 2011. The first song from the album, "Dirty Talk", became a number one hit on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. "Dirty Talk" also topped the music charts in Australia. There, it was certified 3× Platinum, meaning it sold a huge number of copies. The song was also popular in the UK and Ireland. It reached number 25 in the UK and number 8 in Ireland. The song stayed in the UK Top 40 for eleven weeks.

The second song from the album, "Til Death", reached number 3 on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. It also reached number 16 on the ARIA Singles Chart in Australia. The album later had two more songs released as singles: "Buy My Love" and "Still Getting Younger." In August 2011, Diana spent two months touring as the opening act for Patrick Stump's US tour.

On June 20, 2012, she shared a new song called "Stimela." This was the first song from her Human Condition extended plays (EPs). She decided to release these EPs herself. This way, she had more control over her music. The first EP, Human Condition: Doleo, came out on July 9, 2012. The second EP, Human Condition: Sanguine, was released on January 15, 2013.

New Projects and Name Change (2011–2016)

In early 2014, Diana formed a music group called The Righteous Young. She was the lead singer of this five-person band. She explained that The Righteous Young was an extension of her own music. She said, "The Righteous Young is my band... My music, WYNTER and THE RIGHTEOUS YOUNG." She released her first song with the band, "Everything Burns," on June 3, 2014. The music video for the song was released on the same day. Diana toured with the band in July 2014. They were working on their first album, but no more music from the band was released.

On July 29, a new solo song by Diana, "The Hard Way," was released on a mixtape. The song was later released as a single with a music video in April 2015. On May 5, 2015, Diana released "Bleeding Out." This was the main song from her Five Needle EP. The EP itself was released on June 2, 2015.

On April 23, 2016, Beyoncé released her album Lemonade. Diana Gordon (using her real name) received writing and producing credits on several songs. These included "Don't Hurt Yourself", "Sorry", and "Daddy Lessons". A few months later, on July 22, 2016, Diana announced she would no longer use the name Wynter Gordon. She decided to go by her birth name, Diana Gordon. On July 25, 2016, Diana Gordon shared her first song under her own name, "The Legend Of." Her first EP released under her own name, called Pure, came out on August 3, 2018. This EP was praised for its strong and independent feel. On April 3, 2020, Diana released a new eight-song EP called Wasted Youth. It included acoustic versions of her songs "Rollin" and "Once A Friend."
