Dernst "D'Mile" Emile II (born January 24, 1985) is a famous American record producer and songwriter from Brooklyn, New York City. A record producer helps artists create their music, and a songwriter writes the lyrics and melodies for songs.

D'Mile got his start in 2005 by helping produce songs for superstars like Rihanna and Mary J. Blige. He later learned a lot by working with the famous producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins.

He has won some of the biggest awards in music. D'Mile is the first person in history to win the Grammy Award for Song of the Year two times in a row. He won in 2021 for the song "I Can't Breathe" by H.E.R.. He won again in 2022 for "Leave the Door Open" by Silk Sonic. He also won an Academy Award, also known as an Oscar, for co-writing the song "Fight for You."

Early Life and Family

D'Mile grew up in a musical family. His mother, Yanick Étienne, is a singer from Haiti who toured with the band Roxy Music. His father, Dernst Emile, was also a music producer. Growing up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, D'Mile learned to play the keyboard when he was a young child.

Music Career

How It All Started

D'Mile's career took off in 2005. He co-wrote and produced the song "That La, La, La" for Rihanna's first album, Music of the Sun. That same year, he worked on the song "Gonna Breakthrough" for Mary J. Blige's album The Breakthrough.

After this, a friend introduced him to producer Rodney Jerkins. D'Mile spent two years learning from Jerkins, which helped him become an even better producer.

Working with Superstars

D'Mile had a huge hit with Janet Jackson's song "Feedback." The song went to number one on the U.S. dance music chart. He also worked with Justin Bieber on his popular song "Favorite Girl" from the album My World.

He later worked with Diddy on the album Last Train to Paris. D'Mile produced the song "Shades," which featured famous artists like Justin Timberlake and Lil Wayne. He also produced songs for Jennifer Lopez's 2011 album, Love?.

Recent Successes

D'Mile has worked closely with the artist Ty Dolla Sign. Ty Dolla Sign has said that D'Mile is "literally the best producer [he has] ever worked with." D'Mile also produced the song "Livin' It Up" for Ciara's self-titled album in 2013.

In 2016, he produced two songs for Usher's album Hard II Love. He also produced the entire debut album for singer Lucky Daye, called Painted. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award.

In 2020, D'Mile teamed up with Bruno Mars to produce the song "Forever Valentine" for singer Charlie Wilson. He and Mars also wrote the song "Whenever You Call" for the Japanese pop group Arashi. His work with Bruno Mars continued with the group Silk Sonic, leading to major award wins.
