Patrick Martin Stumph (born April 27, 1984), known as Patrick Vaughn Stump, is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the rock band Fall Out Boy. The band started in Wilmette, Illinois.
Patrick Stump's solo music is often described as "funky" and "R&B-infused". Billboard magazine has called him "one of the best voices in pop-punk". With Fall Out Boy, he has helped the band achieve great success. They have had four songs reach the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. They also have four albums that hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart. These albums include Infinity on High (2007) and Save Rock and Roll (2013). Other number one albums are American Beauty/American Psycho (2015) and Mania (2018). In 2005, Stump and Pete Wentz started their own record label, DCD2 Records. They have signed and produced music for bands like Cobra Starship and Panic! at the Disco.
After Fall Out Boy took a break in 2009, Stump released his first solo album. It was called Soul Punk and came out on October 18, 2011. Patrick Stump's Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Patrick Stump was born in Evanston, Illinois. His father, David, was a folk singer. His mother, Patricia, was an accountant. He is the youngest of three children. He grew up in Glenview, Illinois. He went to Glenbrook South High School. His parents divorced when he was eight years old.
Stump loved music from a young age. He once said, "I was always playing music... it was always kind of present." He started out playing drums in different bands in Chicago. Some of these bands included Public Display Of Infection and Arma Angelus. His favorite musicians growing up were Michael Jackson, Elvis Costello, and Nat King Cole.
Patrick Stump's Music Career
Joining Fall Out Boy and Early Success (2001–2009)
Joe Trohman, who helped start Fall Out Boy, met Stump because they both liked music. Trohman then introduced Stump to bassist Pete Wentz. Stump first tried out to be the drummer for the band. But he ended up becoming the lead singer and later the guitarist. Stump and Trohman often switch between playing lead and rhythm guitar. Stump sees himself more as a rhythm guitarist because he started as a drummer. He writes most of the music for the band. Pete Wentz writes the lyrics.
The band's first mini-album, Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend, came out in March 2003. Their first full album, Take This to Your Grave, was released on May 6, 2003. In the same year, Stump decided to drop the "h" from his last name. This was to make it easier to pronounce.
In 2003, Fall Out Boy signed with Island Records. They released an acoustic EP called My Heart Will Always Be the B-Side to Your Tongue in 2004. This EP helped fans wait for their first major label album. It was the band's first music to appear on the Billboard 200 chart.
Their third album, From Under the Cork Tree, came out on May 3, 2005. This album made them very famous. It has sold over 2.5 million copies. It reached number 9 on the Billboard 200 chart. Fall Out Boy's Return and Recent Albums (2013–Present)
On February 4, 2013, Fall Out Boy surprised everyone by announcing their return. They released a new album called Save Rock and Roll on April 12. They also released a new song, "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)". The band played their first show in over three years in Chicago. Save Rock and Roll reached number 1 on the Billboard 200. It sold 154,000 copies in its first week. This was the band's fourth album in a row to reach the top 10. Fall Out Boy toured a lot in 2013 and 2014. They played in big arenas around the world. In October 2013, they released a new EP, PAX AM Days.
Their sixth album, American Beauty/American Psycho, also reached number 1 on the Billboard 200. It sold 192,000 copies in its first week. The album included the very popular song "Centuries". "Uma Thurman" was another hit song from the album.
In April 2017, Fall Out Boy released "Young and Menace". This was the first song from their seventh album, Mania. Mania was released on January 19, 2018. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. This made it the band's fourth number one album.

Patrick Stump's Solo Work (2010–2012)
In January 2010, Patrick Stump announced he was working on his own album. He wrote, performed, and produced it himself. This album, Soul Punk, came out on October 18, 2011.
He released his first solo EP, Truant Wave, on February 22, 2011. It was released through his own record label, Nervous Breakdance Media. The EP had songs that Stump liked but didn't fit on Soul Punk.
Stump played twelve small shows across the United States to support his solo music. He visited cities like Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. This was his first tour as a solo artist. He also played shows in London, Paris, and Cologne. His band included Matt Rubano on bass and Michael Day on guitar.
In February 2012, Stump took a break from the internet. He later explained that he would not quit music. He just might not release his own music for a while. Patrick Stump married his longtime girlfriend, Elisa Yao, in 2012. They live in Chicago. In September 2014, Stump announced they were expecting their first child. Their son, Declan, was born on October 13. In 2016, it was announced that his wife was pregnant with their second child.
Stump has ADHD. He lost 65 pounds when Fall Out Boy took a break. This was partly because of health issues like asthma and pre-diabetes. He also had high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Stump also has synesthesia. This means he can see colors when he hears sounds or sees letters.
In 2012, Stump was chosen to be a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences's Chicago Chapter Governors.
