Robert Walter Flockhart (born February 6, 1956 – died January 2, 2021) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played as a left winger. Robert spent parts of five seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota North Stars. Most of his career was spent playing in minor leagues. Robert also played for Canada at the 1975 World Junior Championships. His younger brother, Ron Flockhart, also played in the NHL.

Robert Flockhart's Hockey Journey

Robert Flockhart was born in Smithers, British Columbia, Canada. He started playing hockey there. In 1973, he joined the Kamloops Chiefs. This team was part of the Western Canada Hockey League (WCHL). He played three seasons with the Chiefs.

Drafted by the Canucks

In 1976, the Vancouver Canucks picked Robert in the NHL Draft. He was the 44th player chosen overall. His first professional season was in 1976–77. He played for the Tulsa Oilers in the Central Hockey League. He scored 54 points in 65 games. This good performance earned him a short time with the Canucks. He played five games for them that season.

Robert stayed with the Canucks organization for three seasons. He scored many points in the minor leagues. However, he found it harder to score when playing for the main NHL team. His longest time in the NHL was in 1977–78. He played 24 games and got one assist. In 1978–79, he played 14 games. He scored his first NHL goal and added another assist.

Moving to the North Stars

The Canucks released Robert in 1979. He then signed with the Minnesota North Stars. In the 1979–80 season, he led the Oklahoma City Stars in scoring. He also played 10 games for the North Stars. In those games, he scored one goal and three assists for four points. He even scored a goal in his first NHL playoff game.

Robert played two more seasons in Minnesota's system. He appeared in two more NHL games in 1980–81. But he never became a full-time NHL player. In 1982, he signed with the Chicago Black Hawks. However, he never played an NHL game for them. He retired from hockey in 1985.
