Charles Robert Lund (Rob) Strachan was born on June 5, 1960, in Münster, West Germany. His family was part of the British Army stationed there. Rob Strachan comes from the Mill of Strachan in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He is the chosen leader, known as the Commander, of Clan Strachan. Rob has traveled a lot because his father, Benjamin Leckie Strachan, was a British Ambassador. He lived in six different countries in the Middle East and also spent six years in Canada.

The Mill of Strachan is a 50-acre property that Rob Strachan is expected to inherit. This land is used for farming, including raising sheep. It also has a riding school, a place for highland ponies, and a fishing area.

In 2014, Clan Strachan held a special meeting in Edinburgh. This meeting was overseen by an official from the Lord Lyon King of Arms, who is in charge of Scottish heraldry and titles. Everyone at the meeting agreed that Rob Strachan should be recognized as the Commander of Clan Strachan. A few days later, the Lord Lyon King of Arms officially appointed Rob as Commander. He will serve in this role for up to 10 years. After this time, it is hoped he will become the permanent, hereditary Chief of Strachan.
