Exploring Mull's Size and Population
Mull is quite a large island. It covers an area of about 875.35 square kilometers (338 square miles). This makes Mull the fourth largest island in Scotland. It is also the fourth largest island surrounding Great Britain, not counting Ireland.
In 2011, about 2,800 people lived on Mull. This number grows a lot during the summer months. Many tourists come to explore the island. Most of Mull's residents live in a town called Tobermory.
Tobermory: Mull's Main Town
Tobermory is the biggest settlement on Mull. It was the island's only official town, or burgh, until 1973. Today, it is still seen as the capital of Mull. Tobermory is famous for its colorful buildings along the waterfront.
The town is also home to something special: the Tobermory distillery. This is where they make Scotch whisky. It is the only single malt whisky distillery on the island. It used to be known as Ledaig.
