Robert Wayne Earl, born on June 2, 1985, is an American ice hockey player. He plays as a forward, usually on the left wing. Robbie, as he is often called, was born in Chicago, Illinois, but grew up in Los Angeles, California. He is currently a free agent, meaning he is not signed with any team. His last team was the SCL Tigers in Switzerland's National League.

Robbie Earl's Hockey Journey

Starting Young: Early Career

When Robbie was a kid, he played in a big hockey tournament called the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament in 1999. He played for the Los Angeles Junior Kings team.

He also spent two years playing for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. This program helps young, talented players get better. In 2002-03, when he was 18, he scored 33 points, including 20 goals, in 53 games. He helped his team finish fourth at the 2003 IIHF World Under-18 Championship in Russia. A year earlier, he scored the winning goal in the 2002 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Playing in College: Wisconsin Badgers

Robbie Earl played college hockey for the University of Wisconsin. In his first year, he scored 27 points in 42 games, leading his team in scoring. He was even named to the All-Rookie Team, which means he was one of the best new players. He scored his first "hat trick" (three goals in one game) against North Dakota.

The next year, he got even better, scoring 20 goals. This was the most on his team and eighth best in his league. He also scored five game-winning goals. His second hat trick happened against the University of Alaska Anchorage. Robbie was also very good at helping his team keep the puck out of their net, with a high plus/minus rating of +17.

In his third year at Wisconsin, Robbie helped his team win the NCAA Men's Hockey Championship in 2006. He scored a goal in the final game against the Boston College Eagles. He also scored two goals in the semifinal game. Because of his great play, he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Frozen Four tournament. After this big win, he decided to leave college early to start his professional career with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Becoming a Pro: NHL and Europe

After winning the college championship, Robbie joined the Toronto Marlies, which is a team connected to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played in their playoff games in 2006. In the 2007-08 season, Robbie made his debut in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played his first NHL game on February 2, 2008, and got an assist.

In 2009, he was traded to the Minnesota Wild. He scored his first NHL goal on November 15, 2009, against the Carolina Hurricanes. After playing for the Wild for two seasons, Robbie decided to play hockey in Europe.

He first played for EC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria in 2011-12, where he led his team with 22 goals. Then, he moved to Switzerland to play for the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in 2012. He was a top scorer for them and later joined EV Zug. In 2015, he played for Färjestad BK in Sweden. After that, he returned to Switzerland, playing for EHC Biel for four seasons. His last team was the SCL Tigers in Switzerland, where he played until 2021.

About Robbie Earl's Life

Robbie Earl went to Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, while he was part of the USA Hockey National Development Team. Before that, he attended Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, California. He was studying consumer science at the University of Wisconsin before he left to play in the NHL. His grandparents are Tom and Pat McCusker, and he has two sisters, Brianne and Erin.
