Robert Anthony Henshaw (born on June 12, 1993) is an Irish professional rugby union player. He plays as a centre for the United Rugby Championship club Leinster. He also plays for the Ireland national team. Before joining Leinster in 2016, he played for Connacht.

Robbie Henshaw's Early Life
Robbie Henshaw was born in Athlone, Ireland. He grew up in a part of Athlone called Coosan. He went to Marist College in the town. In 2011, he was part of the Buccaneers Under 19 team. This team won the Connacht League and Cup, and the All Ireland League.
In 2012, Robbie was the captain of his school's rugby team. They won their first Connacht Senior Schools Cup in 35 years. Besides rugby, Robbie also played Gaelic football when he was younger. He played for the Athlone senior team at just 18 years old. He also played for the Westmeath minor team in 2010 and 2011.
Robbie comes from a family that loves sports. Many of his family members have played GAA sports. His uncle, David Henshaw, played rugby for Buccaneers and Connacht. His family also has a lot of musical talent. Robbie himself can play the accordion, fiddle, guitar, and piano. Because he is good at both music and sports, his teammates call him "One Man Band" and "Old Man Bob Henshaw."
Robbie Henshaw's Club Rugby Career
Playing for Connacht
Robbie Henshaw started his rugby journey in the youth teams at Connacht. In 2011, he was part of the Connacht Under-20 team that won every game in the Interprovincial Championship. He joined the Connacht academy for the 2012–13 season.
Robbie played his first senior game for Connacht on September 1, 2012. Coach Eric Elwood gave him his debut. He played as an outside centre against Cardiff Blues. This was the first game of the 2012–13 Pro12 season.
He played 17 games in that competition, starting most of them. Robbie scored his first try for Connacht on April 12, 2013, against Edinburgh. During that season, he mostly played as a fullback. He also made his European debut in the 2012–13 Heineken Cup against Zebre in October 2012. He started all of Connacht's Heineken Cup matches that season. In December 2012, Robbie signed his first professional contract with Connacht. This deal kept him with the team until the end of the 2014–15 season.
For the 2013–14 season, Pat Lam became the new coach. Robbie continued to play regularly for Connacht. He played both as a fullback and a centre. He played 18 times in the 2013–14 Pro12 and scored three tries. Robbie also started all six of Connacht's games in the 2013–14 Heineken Cup. This included a big win against Toulouse in France. In November 2013, he signed a contract extension to stay with Connacht until summer 2016.
In the 2014–15 season, Robbie spent more time with the Irish team. This meant he played less for Connacht. He played 12 league games, starting each time. He scored a try against the Cardiff Blues. In European rugby, Connacht played in the 2014–15 Challenge Cup. This is the second-tier competition. Robbie started four of the team's six group stage matches. He scored two tries against La Rochelle. He also started in the quarter-final against Gloucester.
On February 14, 2016, Connacht Rugby announced that Robbie would leave the team at the end of the 2015–16 season. He decided to join Leinster. On May 28, 2016, Robbie was part of the Connacht team that won their first major trophy. They won the 2015–16 Pro12 by beating Leinster 20–10 in the final.
Moving to Leinster
On October 8, 2016, Robbie Henshaw played his first game for Leinster. It was a 25-14 win against Munster in the 2016–17 Pro12 at the Aviva Stadium.
Robbie Henshaw's International Career
Playing for Ireland's Youth Teams
Robbie Henshaw played for Ireland at different age levels as he grew up. In November 2011, he made history. He became the first player from Marist College to play for the Irish schools team. He was part of the team that won the Under-18 European Championships. He also played for the country at the under-19 level.
Robbie was chosen for the Ireland training squad for the 2013 Six Nations Championship. He played for the Ireland Wolfhounds (a development team) in a friendly game. On February 8, 2013, he played his first game for Ireland Under-20. He started at fullback in their 16–15 win against England.
Playing for Ireland's Senior Team
Robbie Henshaw was called up to the Ireland squad for the 2013 end-of-year rugby union tests. He came on as a substitute against Australia on November 16, 2013.
He was part of Ireland's squad for the 2014 Six Nations Championship. He played in two international wins in late 2014, against South Africa and Australia.
In 2015, Robbie was in the Ireland squad for the 2015 Six Nations Championship. On March 1, 2015, he scored his first try for Ireland. This was in a 19–9 victory over England during the Six Nations.
Robbie was also part of the Irish squad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. He made his World Cup debut against Italy. He then played full games against France and Argentina. Ireland's World Cup journey ended after the game against Argentina.
On November 5, 2016, Robbie scored the winning try against New Zealand in Chicago. He received the ball from a scrum and broke through three defenders to score. In March 2023, Robbie was part of the Ireland team that won the Grand Slam. This was only the fourth time in history that Ireland had achieved this.
Playing for the British & Irish Lions
Robbie Henshaw was chosen for the 2017 British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand. The British & Irish Lions is a special team made up of the best players from England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. Robbie had to go home early from the tour because of an injury. He had started in games against the Chiefs, Highlanders, and Blues.
Robbie was also picked for the squad for the 2021 British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa. He started in all three test matches, playing at both inside and outside centre. He was one of only nine players to start all three tests on that tour.
