The Robbins Museum is a special place where you can learn about the past. It's also called the Robbins Museum of Archaeology. This museum is run by a group called the Massachusetts Archaeological Society (MAS). You can find it in Middleborough, Massachusetts, in the United States.
Imagine a huge collection of old items! The museum has about 150,000 artifacts. These are things made by people long ago. You can explore a gallery and see over 3,000 items on display. The museum also has a lecture hall, a library, and a gift shop.
Exploring Ancient Life
The museum has many cool displays about Native Americans in New England. You can see a timeline of their history. There is even a diorama, which is like a 3D model, of a village from 4,300 years ago.
You can also see Native American dolls and portraits. A special item is a handcrafted mishoon. This is a type of boat, like a dugout canoe, made by Native Americans.
How the Museum Started
Before the Robbins Museum, the Massachusetts Archaeological Society kept its collection at the Bronson Museum. That museum was in Attleboro, Massachusetts. But the collection kept growing bigger and bigger. It had over 90,000 artifacts.
The Bronson Museum became too small for all these amazing items. So, in 1988, an old factory building was made new. This building became the Robbins Museum. It was named after Dr. Maurice Robbins. He was the person who started the Massachusetts Archaeological Society.
