Robert Austin's Writings

His First Book: Allegiance not impeached

In 1644, Robert Austin published a book called Allegiance not impeached. This book was about loyalty to the king and the country. It was written during a time when there was a lot of disagreement in England between the Parliament and the King.

Austin's book argued that even if Parliament took action against the King's personal orders, it could still be for the good of the King, his power, and the laws of the land. He said he had lost a lot by supporting Parliament. Austin also wrote that he was driven by patriotism, meaning he loved his country and wanted to do what was best for it. He hoped the king would return safely and rule fairly.

One historian, Edward Vallance, said that Austin's book was remarkable because of how bold its arguments were, rather than how much it actually changed things.

Another Book: The Parliaments Rules

Later, in 1647, Robert Austin published another book. This one was titled The Parliaments Rules and Directions concerning Sacramental Knowledge drawn into Questions and Answers. It was a smaller book, like a pamphlet, that explained religious rules in a question-and-answer format.
