Robert John Palmer (born January 18, 1849 – May 12, 1928) was an important person in South Carolina. He was born into slavery but became a successful tailor and a politician. He served in the state government during a special time called the Reconstruction Era. Palmer is also known as the great-great-grandfather of famous comedian Dave Chappelle.
