Robert Kranjec (born 16 July 1981) is a famous former ski jumper from Slovenia. He was known for his amazing skills in ski flying, where jumpers go even farther than in regular ski jumping.

Robert Kranjec's Career

Robert Kranjec started his professional ski jumping career in the late 1990s. He quickly became a strong competitor.

Early Achievements

In 2002, Robert won a bronze medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. This was for the team large hill event, which was a big achievement. He got his first individual win in a World Cup event in 2005. This happened in Kuusamo, Finland.

Becoming a Ski Flying Champion

Robert was especially good at ski flying. This is a type of ski jumping where athletes jump from very large hills. In 2010, he won his second World Cup event in Tauplitz, Austria. He also won the overall ski flying World Cup title for the 2009–10 season. This meant he was the best ski flyer that year!

His biggest win came in 2012. Robert became the 2012 FIS Ski Flying World Champion. This made him the first Slovenian to win a World Championship in ski flying. He also set a new national record for Slovenia with his long jump. At the same championship, his team won a bronze medal. He also won his second ski flying World Cup title in that same season.

Retirement

Robert Kranjec stopped competing in ski jumping in March 2019. He had a long and successful career, especially in ski flying.

Personal Life

Robert Kranjec was born in Ljubljana, which is now the capital city of Slovenia. At the time he was born, it was part of Yugoslavia. His mother is Slovenian, and his father is Croatian.
