Robert Lembke (born Robert Emil Weichselbaum) was a famous German television presenter and game show host. He was born on September 17, 1913, in Munich, Germany. Robert Lembke passed away on January 14, 1989. Many people in Germany knew him for hosting the very popular game show What's My Line? for a long time.
A Look at Robert Lembke's Life
When he was 18, Robert Lembke started studying law. However, he decided to leave college. He then began working as a journalist for newspapers like Berliner Tageblatt.
During the time of Nazi Germany, Robert Lembke refused to sign a special promise to support Adolf Hitler. Because of this, he was not allowed to work as a journalist anymore. His father, who was Jewish, had to leave Germany and went to England in 1936.
In 1935, Robert Lembke married Mathilde Bertholt. Three years later, they had a daughter together.
After World War II, Lembke returned to journalism. He helped start a new German newspaper in Munich called Die Neue Zeitung. He worked with other important writers like Erich Kästner.
From 1949, Lembke worked for the German TV and radio company Bayerischer Rundfunk. He became very well-known as the host of the game show What's My Line? (which is called German: Was bin ich? in German). He hosted this show on ARD television from 1961 until he passed away in 1989.

Robert Lembke received several awards for his work in television:
- 1968: He won the Goldene Kamera award. This was for being the Best Moderator for his show Was bin ich?.
