Robert Nash Ogden Jr was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on May 5, 1839. His parents were Robert Nash Ogden and Frances Sophia Nicholson. He went to the University of North Carolina for about two and a half years. After college, he studied law with a man named Frederick Nash in North Carolina. This training helped him become a lawyer.

Serving in the War

During the American Civil War, Robert Nash Ogden Jr joined the Confederate Army. He served as a lieutenant colonel, which is a high rank for an officer. He worked under a general named James Patrick Major. When the war ended, he went back home to Louisiana.

A Leader in Louisiana Politics

After the war, Robert Nash Ogden Jr decided to get involved in politics. He was elected to the State Legislature. From 1880 to 1884, he held a very important job: Speaker of the Louisiana House of Representatives. This means he was the leader of the group of people who make laws for Louisiana. After that, he became a judge. He served on the Louisiana Court of Appeals in New Orleans for two terms.
