Robert Pine (born Granville Whitelaw Pine on July 10, 1941) is an American actor. He is famous for playing Sgt. Joseph Getraer on the TV show CHiPs. This popular series aired from 1977 to 1983. Robert Pine has appeared in more than 400 episodes of different television shows.

Life and Career Highlights

Robert Pine was born in New York City on July 10, 1941. His father, Granville Martin Pine, was a patent attorney. Robert graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1963. He is married to Gwynne Gilford, who also acted in CHiPs. She played Betty Getraer, the wife of Robert's character. They have two children, Chris and Katie, who are also actors.

Starting in Hollywood

Robert Pine moved to Hollywood in 1964. He learned to ride horses for his acting roles. As a contract actor with Universal Studios, he often appeared in western movies. Pine worked with Universal until 1967.

Famous TV Roles

During his career, Robert Pine acted in many American TV shows. He was on the soap opera Days of Our Lives as Walter Coleman. He also made guest appearances in shows like Gunsmoke and Lost in Space. From 1977 to 1983, he starred in NBC's CHiPs. He played Sgt. Joseph Getraer, the boss of the two main characters.

In the late 1980s, Pine played Peter Morris in an episode of Good Morning, Miss Bliss. This show later became Saved by the Bell. He also appeared in Magnum, P.I. as Thomas Magnum's father in a flashback. In 1998, he played Sgt. Getraer again in the TV movie CHiPs '99.

Robert Pine has also appeared in Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise. He played Ambassador Liria in Star Trek: Voyager. In Star Trek: Enterprise, he was Vulcan Captain Tavin. His other TV credits include Six Feet Under and Beverly Hills 90210. In 2013, he voiced the Bishop of Arendelle in Disney's animated movie Frozen. He also appeared in a TV ad for Kaiser Permanente in September 2013.
