Title Baron Tailboys of Kyme

Robert Tailboys lived a short life from about 1528 to 1542. He was the younger son of Elizabeth Blount and Gilbert Tailboys, 1st Baron Tailboys of Kyme. Robert had a famous half-brother, Henry FitzRoy, 1st Duke of Richmond and Somerset. Henry was the only son Henry VIII, King of England officially recognized outside of his marriage.

Robert's Early Life

Robert was probably the youngest child of Elizabeth Blount and Gilbert Tailboys. He was named after his father's grandfather, Robert Tailboys. He was born between 1524 and 1530. When he died in 1542, he was still a minor, meaning he was under 21 years old. Not much is known about his birth.

Becoming Baron Tailboys

Robert took over the title of Baron Tailboys after his older brother, George, passed away. This meant Robert was the last male in the direct Tailboys family line. His signature can be found in his mother's Gower manuscript. This was an important document for her family.

Robert's Death

It is thought that Robert Tailboys might have died because of the unhealthy climate in the Fen lands. This area was often wet and marshy. Some people also believe he might have died from a sickness called consumption. This was a common illness in those times. After Robert's death, his sister Elizabeth became the next Baroness.
