Sir Robert de Pinkeney was an important English noble who lived a long time ago, in the 1200s. He was known as Baron Pinkeney. A baron was a powerful lord who owned a lot of land and was close to the king. Robert de Pinkeney was also one of the people who wanted to become the King of Scotland! He passed away in the year 1296.

Who Was Robert de Pinkeney?

Robert de Pinkeney was the son of Henry de Pinkeney, who was also a Baron of Pinkeney. His mother was Mary de Wahull. When his father passed away in 1277, Robert took over all of his father's lands and titles. This meant he became the new Baron Pinkeney.

Family Lands and Homes

The Pinkeney family had their main home in a place called Weedon Lois, which was also known as Wedon-Pinkeney. This area is in Northamptonshire, a county in England.

But their lands weren't just in England! The family also owned important properties in Scotland. These Scottish lands included places like Ballencrieff and Luffness. Both of these areas are located in a region of Scotland called Lothian.

A Claim to the Scottish Throne

In 1290, something very important happened in Scotland. The young queen, Margaret, Maid of Norway, passed away. She was known as the "Maid of Norway." Her death meant there was no clear ruler for Scotland.

Because of this, many powerful people stepped forward, saying they had a right to be the next king or queen. Robert de Pinkeney was one of these people. He became known as a "competitor for the Crown of Scotland."

Robert's claim to the throne came from his great-grandmother, Marjorie. People believed Marjorie was a daughter of Henry of Scotland, who was the son of King David I. This family connection, even if it was a bit distant, gave Robert a reason to try for the crown.

Robert's Later Life

Robert de Pinkeney continued his life as a noble. He passed away in the year 1296. After his death, his brother, Henry, took over the family's titles and lands.
