Roberto Mussi, born on August 25, 1963, is a former Italian professional footballer. He was a skilled defender who could play in different positions. He was known for being energetic, tough, and having good technique. This helped his team both when attacking and defending.

Mussi played for the Italian national team. He helped them reach the final of the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He also played in UEFA Euro 1996. After he stopped playing, he worked as a football manager.

Early Career and Parma

Mussi started his professional journey with Massese in 1981. He played there until 1984 and helped his team get promoted to a higher league called Serie C2.

In 1984, he joined Parma. Under manager Arrigo Sacchi, Mussi helped Parma win the Serie C1 title. This win meant Parma was promoted to Serie B, another important league.

Time at AC Milan

In 1987, Arrigo Sacchi, his former manager, brought Mussi to Milan. This was a very famous team at the time. Mussi played for Milan for two seasons, from 1987 to 1989.

During his time at Milan, he won the Italian Serie A title in 1988. He also won the Supercoppa Italiana that same year. A big achievement was winning the European Cup (now known as the UEFA Champions League) in 1989 with Milan.

Success with Torino

After Milan, Mussi moved to Torino in 1989. Torino was in Serie B at the time. He helped them win the Serie B title in the 1989–90 season, which meant they were promoted back to Serie A.

In the 1990–91 season, Mussi and Torino won the Mitropa Cup. The next season, they finished fifth in Serie A, which helped them qualify for the UEFA Cup. In the 1991–92 season, Torino finished third in Serie A. They also reached the UEFA Cup final, but they lost to Ajax. In the 1992–93 season, Mussi won the Coppa Italia with Torino.

Return to Parma and Retirement

In 1994, Mussi went back to Parma. This was a very successful period for him. He won the UEFA Cup twice with Parma, first in 1995 and again in 1999. He also won the Coppa Italia in 1999.

Parma also did well in the league during this time. They finished third in Serie A in 1995, second in 1997, and fourth in 1999. Mussi retired from football in 1999. He played a total of 250 matches in Serie A throughout his career.

Playing for Italy

Roberto Mussi played 11 games for the Italy national football team between 1993 and 1996. His manager for the national team was also Arrigo Sacchi.

1994 FIFA World Cup

Mussi was part of the Italian team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States. Italy made it all the way to the final, but they lost to Brazil in a penalty shootout.

Mussi played in 3 matches during the tournament. He even played in the final, but he got injured during the game and had to be replaced. In the Round of 16 match against Nigeria, Mussi helped set up Roberto Baggio's goal in the last minute. This goal allowed Italy to win the match in extra time and move on to the next round.

Mussi also played in Euro 1996. He played in 3 matches there. However, Italy was eliminated from the tournament in the group stage.
