Robertson Island is a large island covered in ice, found at the eastern end of the Seal Nunataks. It lies off the east coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. The island is about 21 kilometers (13 miles) long and 10 kilometers (6 miles) wide.

Captain Carl Anton Larsen discovered Robertson Island on December 9, 1893. He was sailing on his ship, the Jason. Captain Larsen was curious if a volcano on the island was active. He skied to the top of it from the north side. He later named this volcano Mount Christensen. It was named after Christen Christensen, who was a long-time partner and owner of the Jason. Larsen named Robertson Island after William Robertson. William Robertson was a co-owner of a company in Hamburg called Woltereck and Robertson.

San Roque Refuge

San Roque Refuge was a special shelter built by Argentina in Antarctica. It was located on Robertson Island, near the Foca Nunataks. This shelter was opened on October 1, 1956. The Argentine Army was in charge of running it.

The San Roque Refuge was used for different operations over time. Today, it is no longer active. It is one of 18 shelters that are looked after by the Esperanza Base. Esperanza Base is responsible for keeping these shelters maintained and cared for.
