Rocio de la Villa (born in Madrid, Spain, in 1959) is a Spanish expert in art. She is a university professor, an art historian, and a curator. This means she helps organize art shows. She also writes about art as a critic. In 2014, she won an important award called the MAV Prize for her art criticism. You might also hear her called Rocio de la Villa Ardura or Rocio Villa-Ardura.

Rocio de la Villa is a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She teaches about Aesthetics and Art Theory. Aesthetics is the study of beauty and art. Art Theory looks at the ideas behind art.

Professor de la Villa also teaches at other important places. She teaches at the Museo Reina Sofia. Here, she helps students learn about the history of modern art. She also teaches at the Woman's Studies Institute. This is where she shares knowledge about gender studies.

Leading Art Groups

Rocio de la Villa has been a leader in the art world. Since 2013, she has been the President of the Spanish Society of Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts. She also helped start a group called the Asociación de Mujeres en las Artes Visuales (MAV). This group supports women in visual arts. She was the president of MAV from 2009 to 2012.

She has organized many big events. In 2011, she directed the first European Congress of Aesthetics in Madrid. She also led a series of talks called Heroines. Exhibitions She Has Curated

In 2001, she curated an exhibition called Victoria-Encinas. Non Erectus. This show was in Málaga. She also organized group exhibitions in Madrid. These included Revuelta and In/Habitantes in 2002. Another show she curated was Extraversiones in 2003.

In 2004, she organized a special video-art program. It was called MICRONARRACIONES. This was part of the 25th anniversary of the Woman Institute of Studies at the UAM. She also curated the 17th edition of Circuitos 2005. This show featured plastic arts and photography. In 2011, she curated the Creacion Injuve exhibition for the Instituto de la Juventud.

Recent Curatorial Work

In 2015, Rocio de la Villa curated Registros Domesticados. This exhibition was held at Tabacalera in Madrid. It featured a big show by the Spanish artist Marisa González. This exhibition later traveled to the CGAC Museum in Santiago de Compostela in 2016. A selection of Marisa González's feminist art was also shown in Logroño, Spain, in 2019.
