History of Rock Creek
Rock Creek was first started in 1857. By the 1870s, it became an important stop. Trains on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway would pass through here.
Early Growth and Services
In 1872, a post office opened in Rock Creek. The community kept growing. By 1910, it had several general stores. There was also a telegraph office. This helped people send messages quickly.
Changes in Transportation
In 1927, Highway K-4 was built. It went right through Rock Creek along Rock Creek Road. This made travel easier for many people.
Decline and Modern Day
The post office in Rock Creek closed in 1959. In the 1960s, Highway K-4 was moved. It now goes to the east of Rock Creek. By 1996, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway stopped using its tracks. The tracks that ran through Rock Creek were removed.
Education
Students in Rock Creek go to public schools. The community is served by the Jefferson West USD 340 school district.
