Exploring Rock Run's Past
Rock Run began as a busy place where people dug for valuable minerals. It was mostly a mining community. People think its name came from the way rocks containing iron ore seemed to "run" or flow in the area.
How Rock Run Got Its Name
There are two fun stories about how Rock Run got its name. One idea is that the name came from the way rocks with iron ore were found in the area. The other story tells of a settler who was climbing a hill. A rock came loose and rolled down. The settler watched it go and said, "Look at that rock run!"
