Rockhill is a small, unincorporated community in Collin County, Texas. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It is part of the large Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex area. In 1990, about 25 people lived in Rockhill.
Rockhill's Past
Rockhill was one of the first communities created in Collin County. It even got its own post office in 1854. To help local farmers, J. J. Thompson built a gristmill and a cotton gin there. A gristmill grinds grain into flour, and a cotton gin separates cotton fibers from their seeds.
Later, two churches were built in the community. By 1900, slightly more than 100 people lived in Rockhill. However, things changed when the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway was built. The railway did not pass through Rockhill.
Because of this, many businesses and people moved from Rockhill to nearby Prosper. They wanted to be closer to the new rail line. The Rockhill post office closed in 1904, and mail for the community was then sent through Frisco. The population of Rockhill never grew to more than 100 people. Between 1945 and 1990, the population stayed around 25 people.
