Rockwood is a small, unincorporated community in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own official city government. It's part of the larger town of Kossuth.
Rockwood is located about 6 miles (10 km) north-northwest of downtown Manitowoc. You can find it along County Highway R.
Roads and History
Years ago, a big road called U.S. Route 141 used to go through Rockwood. This road was important for travel between Green Bay and Milwaukee.
However, in 1981, a new, faster highway called Interstate 43 was built. Interstate 43 took over as the main route. Because of this, US 141 was no longer needed in this area. It was then renamed County R, which is the road you see in Rockwood today.
Fun Things to Do
If you visit Rockwood, you might enjoy the Devil's River State Trail. This trail is a great place for outdoor activities. You can walk, bike, or even ride horses on it. It follows an old railroad line, which makes for a flat and easy path.
