The museum is an independent group that does not aim to make a profit. It has about seven staff members and more than 100 helpful volunteers. A group of seven directors helps guide the museum.
Quilt Collections and Exhibits
The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum has a large collection of over 800 quilts. These quilts show how quilting has changed over time. Some are from the early 1800s, while others are modern art quilts. The collection started with 101 quilts given by the museum's founder, Eugenia Mitchell. The museum keeps adding new quilts to its collection. You can even look at the collection online using the Quilt Index.
The museum changes its main exhibits four times a year. It also has smaller shows that feature quilts from its own collection. Sometimes, there are traveling exhibits or shows by individual quilt artists. The RMQM has shown quilts from local artists, across the country, and even from other parts of the world. These exhibits include everything from old, historic quilts to new and artistic ones.
Sandra Dallas Library
The Sandra Dallas Library at RMQM is a great resource for anyone interested in quilts. It has more than 7,500 items, including books, pamphlets, DVDs, and videos. These materials cover many topics about quilts, like their history, stories, patterns, and how to make them.
Volunteers run the library, and it supports itself. Everyone is welcome to visit the library to look at the collection and do research. If you are a member of the RMQM, you can borrow items from the library. You can also browse the library's catalog online before you visit.
Education Programs
The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum offers different learning programs and classes each year. These programs are for both adults and young people. They help visitors learn more about quilting and its history.
