Roderick Mendenilla Paulate (born April 4, 1960) is a famous Filipino actor, TV host, and comedian. He has also been involved in politics. Roderick Paulate is known for his many roles in movies and TV shows, where he has shown his talent in both comedy and drama.
He hosted popular TV shows like Vilma On 7 and Magandang Tanghali Bayan. He also starred in comedy shows such as Oki Doki Doc and Tweets For My Sweets. Roderick Paulate has also been a dramatic actor in series like Munting Heredera and FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.

Roderick Paulate's Acting Journey
Starting as a Child Actor
Roderick Paulate began his acting career when he was very young. In 1968, he won his first Best Child Actor award at the Manila Film Festival for the movie Kasalanan Kaya. He also received a FAMAS award in 1970 for his role in Anghel Na Walang Langit.
Playing Diverse Characters
Roderick Paulate is known for playing many different kinds of characters. In 1979, he appeared in High School Circa ’65. He also played a character named Roda Coburns in the sitcom "Tepok Bunot".
Later, he took on a lead role in Charot, a movie inspired by another actor's performance where they played a character of a different gender. His movie Inday Inday sa Balitaw was very successful. In 1987, he starred in four more movies where he played similar types of characters: Jack en Poy, Bb. Tsuperman, Kumander Gringa, and 1+1=12+1. He continued to play these kinds of roles in both movies and TV. His performances influenced other comedians like Vice Ganda and Paolo Ballesteros.
Versatility in Non-Comedy Roles
Roderick Paulate also showed his talent by playing serious roles in movies and TV. One of his well-known non-comedy roles was in Last Two Minutes. In this movie, he played a basketball coach.
In 1980, he played Ding, a quiet, homeless character in Malayo Pa Ang Umaga. This was one of the first successful TV series in the Philippines. In 1992, he starred in the fantasy drama Engkanto. Here, he played a tree man who protected the environment from people cutting down trees illegally.
Singing and Hosting Career
Roderick Paulate also explored singing. He was sometimes called the Rick Astley Of The Philippines because he was inspired by the singer Rick Astley. He was a popular host and performer on various TV variety shows. These included Tonight With Dick & Carmi, Vilma, and Magandang Tanghali Bayan.
Awards and Recognition
Throughout his career, Roderick Paulate has received many awards. He earned six Best Child Actor awards. As an adult, he has won 17 awards. In 1986, he won Best Supporting Actor for Inday, Inday sa Balitaw.
He was named Best Actor in Drama at the Asian Television Awards in 1996. He won this award again in 2000 for an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya called "Wristwatch". He also won for his role in Malayo Pa Ang Umaga in 1981. In 2012, Roderick Paulate was honored with a spot on the Philippines Eastwood City Walk Of Fame. This recognized his contributions to acting, singing, hosting, and comedy.
Roderick Paulate's Public Service
Serving as a City Councilor
Roderick Paulate was elected as a councilor for Quezon City's 2nd district in 2010. As a councilor, he helped make decisions for the city.
He faced some challenges during his time in office. In 2016, a court decision allowed him to continue serving. He ran for councilor again and was elected for another term.
Later Political Efforts
In 2019, Roderick Paulate ran for vice mayor of Quezon City but was not successful. He also tried to return to the city council in 2022 but did not win.
In December 2022, a court made a decision regarding some issues from his time as a councilor. The court ordered him and another person to pay back some money to the government. He tried to appeal this decision, but it was not changed in January 2023.

Roderick Paulate finished his high school education in 1984 at Jose Rizal College, which is now José Rizal University.
