Rodney Harmon (born August 16, 1961) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. He was known for his strong play on the ATP tour.

Rodney Harmon: A Tennis Star
Rodney Harmon's most famous moment in tennis happened at the 1982 U.S. Open. This was his very first time playing in a Grand Slam tournament. He surprised many by reaching the quarterfinals.
To get there, he beat several tough players. This included Eliot Teltscher, who was ranked 8th in the world at the time. Rodney won that match in an exciting fifth-set tiebreak. He eventually lost to the famous player Jimmy Connors in the quarterfinals. Connors went on to win the tournament that year.
Rodney Harmon made history at the 1982 U.S. Open. He was only the second African-American man to reach the U.S. Open quarterfinals. The first was the legendary Arthur Ashe. This was a special achievement that stood for many years, until James Blake also reached the quarterfinals in 2005.
Life After Playing: Coaching and Beyond
After his playing career, Rodney Harmon continued to be involved in tennis. He became a coach, sharing his knowledge and experience with new players.
On July 3, 2012, Rodney was named the head coach for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women's tennis team. He also appears on Tennis Channel Academy, a show on the Tennis Channel. On this show, he helps teach people about tennis.
A Doubles Victory
During his career, Rodney Harmon also had success in doubles tennis. He won one doubles title in March 1985. He teamed up with fellow American player Marcel Freeman. They won the Lorraine Open, which was played on a hard indoor court. They beat
