Rodrigo Orgóñez (born 1490 – died April 26, 1538) was a brave Spanish captain. He served under another important leader named Diego de Almagro.
Orgóñez was born in Oropesa, Spain. He gained early military experience fighting in wars in Italy. Later, he traveled to the Americas. He joined Francisco de Godoy from Nicaragua. Together, they met up with Diego de Almagro's forces. This group was helping Francisco Pizarro during the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire.

Rodrigo Orgóñez showed great loyalty as a soldier for five years. Because of his dedication, he was made second in command. His new role was to help conquer and govern the southern part of the Incan Empire. This was a very important position.
Loyalty and Conflict
In 1537, Orgóñez helped Almagro in a major event in Cusco. He led a group that surrounded the Amaru Cancha Palace. During this action, they captured Hernando Pizarro and Gonzalo Pizarro. These were brothers of Francisco Pizarro. This event showed Orgóñez's strong support for Diego de Almagro.
His Final Battle
Rodrigo Orgóñez later led an army against the Pizarro brothers. However, he was killed in 1538 during the Battle of Las Salinas. This battle was a major conflict between the followers of Almagro and the Pizarro brothers.
The American historian William H. Prescott wrote about Orgóñez. He said that Orgóñez was a very loyal and brave soldier. He was strong in making decisions and bold in action.
