Rodrigo Osvaldo Valdés Pulido (born on November 26, 1966) is a Chilean economist and politician. He served as Chile's Minister of Finance from May 11, 2015, to August 31, 2017. He worked in the government of President Michelle Bachelet.

Becoming an Expert: Rodrigo Valdés's Education
Rodrigo Valdés studied a lot to become an expert in economics. He earned a special business degree called an MBA and an economics degree from the University of Chile. He also went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States. There, he earned a doctorate in economics. This means he studied economics at a very high level.
Working Life: Rodrigo Valdés's Career
Before he became the Minister of Finance, Mr. Valdés had many important jobs. He was the head of the state-run bank, Banco del Estado de Chile. He also worked as a main economist for a big investment bank called BTG Pactual. He helped with countries like Argentina. He also worked for the International Monetary Fund, which is a group that helps countries with their money problems. He was also a chief economist for Barclays Capital, another big financial company.
Minister of Finance: Helping Chile's Economy
Mr. Valdés became the Minister of Finance during a challenging time for the government. He was appointed to help fix some economic issues. As Minister, he worked on new plans to improve the economy. He also led efforts to change the pension system, which helps people save money for when they retire.
Mr. Valdés, along with his deputy Alejandro Micco and economy minister Luis Carlos Cespedes, left their roles before the 2017 elections. Nicolás Eyzaguirre took over as Minister of Finance.
After the Ministry: International Work
In 2018, the head of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, asked Mr. Valdés to join a special group. This group helps review how the Fund works and plans for the future.
