Roger Beauchamp was born around 1315. He was the son of Roger de Beauchamp. His family had a long history, with his grandfather, Walter de Beauchamp, serving King Edward I. Roger's mother was Alice de Tosny from Flamstead, Hertfordshire.
Roger Beauchamp's Career and Service
Roger Beauchamp started his career working for King Edward III. By April 24, 1337, he was known as a "yeoman" to the King. A yeoman was a trusted servant or attendant.
Working for Queen Philippa
On October 26, 1340, Queen Philippa of Hainault, King Edward III's wife, gave Roger an important job. She made him the keeper of Devizes Castle. This shows how much she trusted him.
Military Service in France
Roger Beauchamp was a soldier who fought in the wars in France. He started serving as early as 1346. His military skills were recognized, and in 1372, he was made the Captain of Calais. Calais was a very important port city in France that England controlled at the time.
Becoming a Baron and Lord Chamberlain
Roger Beauchamp was called to join Parliament many times, from June 1, 1363, to October 20, 1379. Because of these calls, he became known as Lord Beauchamp. This meant he was a nobleman with a special title. In 1376 or 1377, he was also appointed Lord Chamberlain of the Household to King Edward III. This was a very high position, meaning he was in charge of the King's personal staff and household affairs.

First Marriage and Children
Before March 15, 1337, Roger married Sibyl de Patteshull. She was an heiress from Bletsoe. Sibyl passed away before 1375. Together, they had two sons and one daughter:
- Sir Roger Beauchamp (died before May 15, 1374): He married Joan de Clopton. Sir Roger had a son named Roger Beauchamp, who later became the 2nd Baron Beauchamp of Bletsoe. This younger Roger (1362–1406) was the grandfather of Margaret Beauchamp of Bletso. Margaret was the grandmother of Henry VII of England, a future King of England! Sir Roger also had a daughter named Margaret Beauchamp.
- Philip de Beauchamp (born around 1338): He became an Archdeacon of Exeter, which is a church official. Queen Philippa of Hainault was his godmother.
- Margaret de Beauchamp: She married twice. First, she married Sir John de Blanchminster. Later, she married Sir Gilbert Talbot.
Second Marriage
Roger Beauchamp married a second time to Margaret de Carew. She was the sister of William de Carew. Margaret was also the widow of Thomas de Grandison, 4th Baron Grandison, who died in 1375. Roger and Margaret did not have any children together.
When Did Roger Beauchamp Die?
Roger Beauchamp passed away on January 3, 1380. In his will, which was written on December 19, 1379, he asked to be buried at the Blackfriars, London. He wanted to be buried next to his first wife, Sibyl.
