Roger Lemerre's Playing Career
Roger Lemerre played professional football for 15 years. He started in 1961 and retired in 1975. He played for several French clubs.
- From 1961 to 1969, he played for Sedan.

Coaching the French National Team
Roger Lemerre became an assistant coach for the French team in 1998. He helped them win the World Cup that year. This success led him to become the main coach of the French national team.

- He won the Euro 2000 tournament. This competition took place in the Netherlands and Belgium.
- The next year, he won the FIFA Confederations Cup.
However, the team did not do well in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. They were eliminated in the first round. Because of this, the French Football Federation decided to let him go.
Coaching the Tunisian National Team
After leaving France, Roger Lemerre was hired by the Tunisian Football Federation. He became the manager of the Tunisian national side.
He led Tunisia to victory in the 2004 African Cup of Nations. This made him the first coach in history to win two different major continental tournaments: Euro 2000 and the Africa Cup of Nations. He also helped Tunisia qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. He left the team in February 2008 after they were knocked out of the 2008 African Cup of Nations.
Coaching Morocco and Turkey
In May 2008, Roger Lemerre became the new head coach of the Morocco national team. He started his new role on July 1. However, he was fired on July 9, 2009, due to disappointing results.
On December 18, 2009, he took a coaching job at Ankaragücü in Turkey. He signed a six-month contract. Even though he helped the team improve, the club decided not to extend his contract in May 2010.
Later Coaching Roles
In December 2013, Lemerre agreed to coach the Tunisian team Étoile du Sahel for six months. In January 2016, he became the new manager of Sedan in France. He also had more coaching spells with Étoile du Sahel from 2018-2019 and 2021-2022.
