John Roger Roberts, also known as Lord Roberts of Llandudno, is a Welsh politician and a minister in the Methodist church. He was born on October 23, 1935. He is a member of the House of Lords, which is part of the UK Parliament. Lord Roberts has been a strong voice for the Liberal Democrats, a political party in the UK, for many years.

His Early Life and Education
Lord Roberts went to school at John Bright Grammar School in Llandudno. He also studied at the University College of North Wales. Later, he attended Handsworth Methodist College in Birmingham. These places helped him prepare for his career.
His Career and Public Service
His Work as a Minister
In 1957, Lord Roberts became a Methodist minister. He led the Methodist church in Llandudno for 20 years. After that, he served as a minister at the Dewi Sant (Welsh United) Church in Toronto, Canada. Even now, he is an active minister in North Wales.
His Political Journey
Lord Roberts was a local councillor and a leader for the Liberal Democrats. He worked on the Aberconwy Borough Council for several years. He also ran for the parliamentary seat of Conwy five times. He came very close to winning twice. Once, he nearly beat the Conservatives, losing by only 995 votes. Then, in the 1997 General Election, he was beaten by the Labour party.
On June 15, 2004, Roberts became a life peer. This means he was given the title Baron Roberts of Llandudno. He became a member of the House of Lords, which is the second chamber of the UK Parliament. He used to be a whip and a spokesperson for International Development. Now, he speaks for the Liberal Democrats on topics like youth involvement in democracy, unemployment, and issues related to asylum and migration. He also speaks about Welsh affairs.
Lord Roberts is currently the president of Wales International. He is also an honorary president for groups like Bite The Ballot, Liberal Democrats for Seekers of Sanctuary (LD4SOS), and Friends of Barka UK. He is also a vice-president of the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod.
His Personal Life
Lord Roberts wrote a book called Hel Tai, which is only available in Welsh. He lives in Llandudno, North Wales. He is a widower and has three children. His son, Gareth Roberts, also ran for the same political seat in 2005. His two daughters, Rhian Roberts and Sian Roberts, work for the BBC and the Electoral Reform Services.
