About Roger S. Baum
Early Life and Family
Roger S. Baum has lived in different places, including Los Angeles, Springfield, Missouri, and Las Vegas, Nevada. He comes from a very famous family of writers! His great-grandfather was L. Frank Baum, who created the original "Oz" books, like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. His grandfather, Frank Joslyn Baum, also wrote an Oz book called The Laughing Dragon of Oz. It's no surprise then that many of Roger S. Baum's own books take place in the same amazing world of Oz.
Becoming an Author
Before he started writing Oz stories, Roger S. Baum wrote short stories. He also wrote another children's book called Long Ears And Tailspin In Candy Land in 1968. In 1987, the International Wizard of Oz Club asked him to write new stories about Oz. His Oz books became very popular. This success allowed him to leave his banking job in 1990 and become a full-time children's author. Sometimes, ideas from his earlier books, like "Candy Land" from Long Ears And Tailspin In Candy Land, show up again in his later Oz books.
Roger S. Baum's Oz stories are his own unique adventures. They do not always follow the exact history of the original "Famous Forty Oz books." He creates new tales for readers to enjoy.
Books and Movies
Several of Roger S. Baum's books have been turned into movies. His book Lion of Oz and the Badge of Courage was made into an animated film called Lion of Oz in 2000. Another one of his books, Dorothy of Oz, was adapted into a movie titled Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return. This film was released in 2014.
