The post office in Rolling Bay has a special name. On February 26, 2010, it was officially renamed The Bud Hawk Post Office. This was done to honor a very brave person who grew up right there in Rolling Bay.
Who Was Bud Hawk?
Bud Hawk was a local hero. He grew up exploring the woods of Rolling Bay as a kid. When he became an adult, he served in World War II. He was a machine-gunner in the U.S. Army. During the war, he showed incredible bravery in Europe. He earned the Medal of Honor, which is the highest award for military bravery in the United States. He also received four Purple Hearts, an award given to soldiers wounded in battle. After the war, Bud Hawk became an educator in Kitsap County for many years, helping young people learn and grow.
