Rollo Coaster at RCDB |
Rollo Coaster is an exciting wooden roller coaster located at Idlewild and Soak Zone park. This fun park is near Ligonier, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1938 by a well-known company called Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters. They were famous for designing and building roller coasters back then.
For many years, Rollo Coaster was the only roller coaster at Idlewild. Later, a bigger coaster called Wild Mouse was added in 1993. The Rollo Coaster closed for a short time in 2016. But don't worry, it reopened in 2018 and is still giving rides today!
Ride Experience
The Rollo Coaster is built on a hillside at Idlewild Park. This means it uses the natural ups and downs of the land. It's an "out and back" style coaster. This means the ride goes out from the station and then comes back along a similar path.
How it Works
The coaster uses special "skid brakes" to slow down. These brakes are operated by hand with a lever. The ride has a train with four cars. Each car has seats for two people in a row. Some cars have two rows, and others have one.
Thrills and Fun
Even though the Rollo Coaster has small hills, it feels very fast! This is because it's built on steep ground. The ride has many tight twists and turns. These make the ride feel rough and exciting. It gives riders a sense of going much faster than they really are.
Interesting Facts
The Rollo Coaster was once very popular with roller coaster fans. This was because it didn't have many restraints, just a grab bar. However, new safety rules were added in 2018.
This coaster is located right next to the park's Carousel and Flying Aces rides. It also inspired another famous coaster! A much larger coaster called Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce was designed after the Rollo Coaster.
The Rollo Coaster was recognized as an "ACE Coaster Classic" by the American Coaster Enthusiasts. This group loves and celebrates roller coasters!
