Romà Cuyàs i Sol (born November 24, 1938 – died December 27, 2019) was an important person in Spanish sports and culture. He was a lawyer who held many big jobs. He was the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee from 1983 to 1984. He also helped organize the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Romà Cuyàs's Career in Sports and Culture
Romà Cuyàs i Sol studied law at the University of Barcelona. He was also an athlete at the CN Barcelona club. He even helped run the club as the head of the athletics section. Later, he joined the Catalan Athletics Federation in 1962. He also served on the board of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.
From 1982 to 1987, Romà Cuyàs was the Secretary of State for Sports in Spain. He was also the president of the National Sports Council. During this time, he worked to make sports and sports groups more fair and open. This happened after a period when Spain was not a democracy. He also led the Spanish Olympic Committee from 1983 to 1984. He was made an honorary member for life in 1984. Later, he was the president of the Catalan Athletics Federation from 2000 to 2012.
Romà Cuyàs also worked in the world of books and culture. He helped start the Association of Publishers in Catalan Language. He was its first president from 1978 to 1982. He also held different roles in the Guild of Publishers of Catalonia. From 1996 to 1997, he was the director of Cultural Promotion for the Catalan Government. He played a big part in shaping Catalan culture. This was especially true during the end of the Franco dictatorship and when Spain became a democracy.
His Role in the Barcelona Olympic Games
Romà Cuyàs i Sol was very important for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. He wrote the first study to see if Barcelona could host the Games. The Barcelona City Council asked him to do this, and his report came out in 1982. He was the first person in charge of the Barcelona 92 Olympic Project. He was also a vice president for Barcelona's bid to host the Games. He was part of the main committee for the Olympics, called COOB 92. He also helped lead the Cultural Olympiad. This was a program of cultural events during the Games. He also managed the official records of the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games.
Awards and Honors for Romà Cuyàs
Romà Cuyàs i Sol received several special awards for his work.
- In 2014, he got a Gold Medal for sporting merit from the City Council of Barcelona.
- He also received a Silver Necklace from the International Olympic Committee.
- In 2017, the Catalan Government gave him the Creu de Sant Jordi. This is a very important award in Catalonia. The President of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, gave him this award.
