Rome is a small place in Covington County, Alabama, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Rome is found along U.S. Route 29, about 14.8 miles (23.8 km) southwest of Andalusia. The entire community is located inside the Conecuh National Forest, a large protected area of trees and nature.
Discovering Rome's Past
The community of Rome likely got its name from Rome, a city in Georgia. That city, in turn, was named after the famous ancient city of Rome in Italy. A post office served the Rome community for many years. It was open from 1871 until 1907.
