Romulo Cincinato (born 1502, died around 1593) was a talented Italian painter. He lived during the exciting Renaissance period, a time when art and learning flourished. After 1567, he moved to Spain and created many beautiful artworks there. Romulo also had two sons, Diego and Francisco Romulo, who followed in his footsteps and became painters in Spain too.
About Romulo Cincinato
Romulo Cincinato was born in Florence, a famous city in Italy known for its amazing artists. His artistic skills were so impressive that the Spanish Ambassador, who worked for the King of Spain in Rome, noticed him. The Ambassador then suggested Romulo to King Philip II of Spain. This led Romulo to move to Spain, where he would create some of his most important works.
His Famous Artworks
One of Romulo Cincinato's most well-known paintings is an altar-piece (a painting placed behind an altar in a church) called The Circumcision. This large painting was made for the Jesuits' Church in Cuenca, a city in Spain. It is considered one of his best pieces.
Romulo also worked alongside another artist named Patricio Caxés, who was from Arezzo, Italy. Patricio also painted many artworks in a place called El Pardo. Both artists created paintings for the famous Escorial, a huge historical building in Spain that served as a palace, monastery, and royal burial site.
