Rona Altrows' Life Story

Rona Altrows grew up in a big city called Montreal, which is in Quebec. In 1979, she moved to Calgary, Alberta. She has lived there ever since. Rona has also worked as a "writer-in-residence." This means she was a special writer who helped others at the Calgary Public Library. She also worked at the Alexandra Writers' Centre Society, which is also in Calgary.

Awards and Special Recognitions

Rona Altrows has won some important awards for her writing. She won two Alberta Literary Awards. One was the City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize for her book A Run on Hose. The other was the Jon Whyte Memorial Essay Prize for her essay "Letter of Intent."

She was also nominated twice for the Howard O'Hagan Award for Short Story. With another writer, Naomi K. Lewis, she won an Independent Publisher Book Award (IPPY). This award was for their book called Shy: An Anthology. Rona Altrows was also the very first person to win the Brenda Strathern Writing Prize.
