Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Ronald Arthur Dalzell, 12th Earl of Carnwath (born June 3, 1883 – died July 15, 1931), was an important figure in British history. He held the title of an Earl, which is a noble rank in the United Kingdom. Ronald was the second son of Robert Dalzell, 11th Earl of Carnwath.

Becoming an Earl

Ronald's older brother passed away in 1904. This meant that Ronald became the next in line to inherit his father's title, the Earldom of Carnwath. At this time, he was known as Lord Dalzell. When his father died on March 8, 1910, Ronald officially became the Earl of Carnwath.

Service in World War I

When World War I began in 1914, Ronald joined the military. He was part of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and worked with the Air Service. In 1915, he had to leave this service because of health issues.

After recovering, he joined a different group called the Welsh Horse Yeomanry. He then served in France during the war. By 1919, his health problems meant he was no longer able to serve in the military.

Family and Legacy

Ronald Dalzell married Maude Maitland Savile on July 23, 1910. They did not have any children. When Ronald passed away in 1931, the title of Earl of Carnwath went to his uncle, Arthur Dalzell.
