Ronda de la Universitat, Barcelona facts for kids
Ronda de la Universitat is a main street in the center of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It's located in the lower part of the Dreta de l'Eixample area, which is part of the Eixample district. This important street connects two of Barcelona's biggest squares: Plaça de Catalunya and Plaça Universitat.
When it reaches Plaça Universitat, it meets another major road called Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. Right after Plaça de Catalunya, it becomes a very similar street known as Ronda de Sant Pere. Like other "rondas" (ring roads), this street follows the path of the old medieval city walls. Specifically, it follows the line of the Tallers wall, which was above the area now known as Raval. A street called Carrer de Tallers runs somewhat parallel to it.
Ronda de la Universitat was paved in 1872. It gets its name from the Universitat de Barcelona (University of Barcelona), whose main building has been at Plaça Universitat since the 1800s. Before its current name was officially approved in 1989, it was known by its Spanish name, Universidad. The Biblioteca Judicial de Catalunya (Catalonia Judicial Library) is also located on this street.
