Ronnie Baker, born on October 15, 1993, is an American athlete who is super fast! He specializes in sprint races like the 60-meter and 100-meter dash. He is one of the fastest men ever in the 60-meter race, with a personal best time of 6.40 seconds.

Ronnie has won many awards. He was the USA Indoor Champion in the 60-meter race in 2017. He also won a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in 2018. In 2017, he helped his team win a gold medal in the 4 × 100 meter relay at the World Relays. He was also a top runner in the Diamond League in 2018, winning four races. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Ronnie ran his fastest 100-meter race ever, finishing in 9.83 seconds. This made him one of the fastest men in Olympic history for that event!

Becoming a Sprinter

Ronnie Baker grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. When he first started school, he ran in cross country races, which are long-distance runs. In middle school, he switched to the 400-meter sprint. He kept running the 400-meter race through high school. He also played basketball at Ballard High School.

Ronnie looked up to famous sprinters like Michael Johnson, Tyson Gay, and Usain Bolt. They inspired him in his own running career.

Ronnie's Track Journey

Ronnie Baker went to Texas Christian University (TCU). There, he changed from running the 400-meter race to focusing on shorter sprints. While at TCU, he became the national college champion (NCAA) in the 60-meter race twice, in 2015 and 2016.

In 2017, Ronnie became the best indoor 60-meter runner in the USA. A month later, he won his first gold medal at a big international competition. This was at the World Relays, where his team won the 4 × 100 meter relay race.

In 2018, Ronnie won a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships. He also set a new personal best time of 9.87 seconds in the 100-meter race that year.

In 2021, Ronnie started the year strong. He won his first 100-meter race at the Texas Relays with a time of 9.94 seconds. This was the fastest time in the world that year so far! He also broke a record for that event that had been set way back in 1992.

Ronnie qualified for the Tokyo Olympics by running a super fast 100-meter race. He finished second at the US Olympic Trials with a time of 9.85 seconds. At the Tokyo Olympics, he ran even faster! His time of 9.83 seconds in the semi-finals made him the 6th fastest man in Olympic 100-meter history. He is also the third-fastest American in Olympic 100-meter history.

Awards and Recognition

While in high school, Ronnie Baker was named the Gatorade state boys track and field athlete of the year in both 2011 and 2012. He received so much powdered Gatorade that he and his mom were able to share it with his high school team!

About Ronnie's Life

Ronnie Baker was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He went to Ballard High School there. Interestingly, he also lived in Anchorage, Alaska for seven years when he was younger. Ronnie is a distant relative of another famous sprinter, Tyson Gay. On March 7, 2020, he married Mikaela Harrison in Fort Worth, Texas.
