Rory Kiely (born May 1, 1934 – died June 13, 2018) was an important Irish politician. He was a member of the Fianna Fáil political party. Rory Kiely served in the Seanad Éireann, which is the upper house of the Irish parliament. He was also the Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, which means he was its chairperson.

Rory Kiely's Early Life
Rory Kiely was born on May 1, 1934, in Feenagh, near Kilmallock in County Limerick, Ireland. He grew up to become a farmer. He was married to Eileen Kiely, whose maiden name was O'Connor. Together, they had four children: two sons and two daughters.
Education and Learning
Rory went to school at C.B.S. Charleville in County Cork. After that, he continued his studies at University College Cork. There, he earned a Diploma in Social and Rural Science. This education helped him understand both society and farming.
His Time in Irish Politics
Rory Kiely was a member of the Fianna Fáil political party. This is one of the main political parties in Ireland.
Becoming a Senator
He first tried to become a member of the Dáil Éireann (the lower house of the Irish parliament) in 1969. However, he was not successful that time. Rory was first elected to the Seanad Éireann in 1977. He represented the Agricultural Panel, which means he was chosen by people involved in farming.
He was re-elected to the Seanad many times after that. He served in almost every Seanad until he retired from politics in 2007.
Leading the Seanad
From 2002 to 2007, Rory Kiely held a very important position. He was the Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann. This role is like being the speaker or president of the Seanad. It means he was in charge of running meetings and making sure rules were followed.
Involvement with the GAA
Rory Kiely was also very involved with the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The GAA is Ireland's largest sporting organization. It promotes traditional Irish sports like Gaelic football and hurling.

Rory Kiely passed away on June 13, 2018. He was 84 years old. He died in County Limerick, where he was born and lived most of his life.
