Rosa María Mateo Isasi (born January 6, 1942) is a famous Spanish journalist. She was a well-known television news anchor during Spain's change to democracy. From July 2018 to March 2021, she was the temporary leader of RTVE. This is Spain's national public radio and television company. As the "Sole Administrator," she had all the powers of the main boss and the Board of Directors.

Early Life and Education
Rosa María Mateo's father was a soldier. Because of his job, she lived in different cities like Burgos, Madrid, and Valencia when she was young. In Valencia, she started studying law. At that time, only about 10 women were studying law there. She also found out she loved theater.
She later earned degrees in Law and Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid. She also studied Political Science and acting, showing her wide range of interests. Since the 1990s, she has been in a relationship with Spanish actor Miguel Rellán.
A Career in Journalism
In 1963, Rosa María Mateo started her career as an announcer at Radio Nacional de España. This is a national radio station in Spain. By 1966, she joined the news team at Spanish television.
She first worked on a channel called La 2. Then, in the early 1970s, she moved to La 1, another main TV channel. Her popularity grew a lot when she hosted the first OTI Festival in 1972.
Becoming a TV Star
Rosa María Mateo became very famous when she joined the respected TV show Informe Semanal. She worked there until 1980. People called her "the Muse of the Transition." This was because of her important role during a difficult time in Spain. After an attempted coup in 1981, she was chosen by all political parties to read a statement condemning the event. This showed how much people trusted her.
She also presented the main news program, Telediario, until 1993. After that, she moved to another TV channel, Antena 3. There, she hosted their weekend news program, Antena 3 Noticias, until 2003. Her contract ended then.
In 1990, a study found that Rosa María Mateo was one of the most liked TV hosts at RTVE. She also spoke out about how TV news treated women.
Awards and Recognition
In 2010, she received the Gold Medal of Merit for Work. This award came from the Ministry of Labor and Immigration. In 2013, she received the Honorary Exxpopress Award. This was to recognize her long and successful career in journalism. She even had a tree planted in her name at the Communication Park in Boiro, Spain.
Leading RTVE
In 2018, there were problems choosing a new leader for RTVE. So, the new government of Pedro Sánchez suggested Rosa María Mateo for a special job. She became the "Sole Administrator" of RTVE. This was a temporary position. Her job was to lead the public company until a new, permanent leader could be chosen.
Her appointment was approved on July 27, 2018. She officially started her role on July 30. She held this important position until March 26, 2021, when a new Chair, José Manuel Pérez Tornero, was appointed.
