Rose Katherine Morton-Sayre (born December 3, 1925 – died November 12, 1999) was a smart American mathematician. She was famous for her work in a field called fluid mechanics, which is the study of how liquids and gases move. A special number, called the Morton number, is named after her. This number helps scientists understand things like bubbles.

Early Life and Education

Rose Morton was born in a town called Albemarle, North Carolina. She loved math and went to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. At that time, it was a college just for women. She earned her bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1948. While she was at college, she was also the president of a group called the Square Circle Club.

Her Work as a Mathematician

After finishing college, Rose Morton-Sayre started working at a place called the David Taylor Model Basin. This was a special test center for the U.S. Navy. She worked there for many years, from 1949 to 1960. Her husband, Clifford L. Sayre, Jr., was also an engineer. He also worked at the David Taylor Model Basin from 1956 to 1960.
