Rosemary Barton (born May 31, 1976) is a well-known Canadian political journalist. She works for CBC, which is Canada's national public broadcaster. Her job is to help Canadians understand what's happening in politics.

Rosemary is the chief political correspondent for CBC. This means she is the main reporter covering political news. She hosts her own show called Rosemary Barton Live on Sunday mornings. She also leads special news coverage for the network, especially during elections or big national events.

She was a key anchor for CBC's election coverage in both the 2019 and 2021 federal elections. She even interviewed the leaders of the main political parties.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Rosemary helped lead CBC's news coverage. She reported on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's daily briefings. These briefings shared important updates about the pandemic and new government support programs.

Starting Her Career in Journalism

Rosemary Barton grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She started her journalism career as a researcher for CBC's French news network, RDI. Later, she became a reporter for Global News, covering news from the National Assembly of Quebec.

In 2004, she returned to the CBC. She continued to report on provincial politics. By 2007, she moved to the national Parliament Hill office. This meant she covered news from the Canadian government in Ottawa. She also started filling in as a host for the show Power & Politics in 2011.

In 2015, Rosemary became the temporary host of Power & Politics. This show focuses on Canadian politics. People really liked her interview style. They said she was very good at asking tough questions and getting clear answers.

She became very popular during the 2015 election. A politician tried to avoid answering a question about Syrian refugees. Rosemary quickly pointed out that his statements were not true. She challenged him to answer the question directly. This showed her strong commitment to clear and honest reporting.

Because of her excellent work, she was officially named the permanent host of Power & Politics in January 2016. That same year, she won an award for Best Host or Interviewer at the 4th Canadian Screen Awards.
