Rosemary Barton (born May 31, 1976) is a well-known Canadian journalist. She works for CBC, which is a big news organization in Canada. Rosemary is the main political reporter for CBC. This means she covers important news about the government and elections.
She hosts her own Sunday morning news show called Rosemary Barton Live. She also leads special news coverage for CBC. This includes reporting during elections, big breaking news, and national emergencies. Rosemary anchored CBC's election coverage in 2019 and 2021. She interviewed many important political leaders.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Rosemary Barton led CBC's news coverage. She reported on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's daily press conferences. These briefings helped Canadians understand the pandemic and new government support programs.

Rosemary's Early Career in Journalism
Rosemary Barton grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She started her journalism career as a researcher for CBC's French news network, RDI. Later, she became a reporter for Global News. She covered news from the National Assembly of Quebec.
In 2004, she returned to CBC. She continued to report on provincial politics. By 2007, she moved to the national Parliament Hill office. This is where Canada's government works. In 2011, she started filling in as a host on the show Power & Politics.
Hosting Power & Politics
In 2015, Rosemary Barton became the temporary host of Power & Politics. People really liked her interview style. Other journalists praised how well she asked questions.
Rosemary became very popular during the 2015 election. She had a strong moment on Power & Politics with a government minister. He tried to blame the media for not covering the Syrian refugee crisis enough. Rosemary quickly corrected him. She said his statements were "completely false." She even offered to show clips of past shows where they had discussed the crisis. She challenged him to answer the question directly.
Because of her great work, she officially became the permanent host of the show in January 2016. In 2016, Rosemary won an award for Best Host or Interviewer. This was at the 4th Canadian Screen Awards.
Rosemary's Role on The National
On November 6, 2017, Rosemary Barton started as a co-host of The National. This is CBC Television's main evening newscast. She hosted alongside Adrienne Arsenault, Andrew Chang, and Ian Hanomansing. After she moved, Vassy Kapelos took over as host of Power & Politics.
In January 2020, Rosemary changed roles at CBC. She became the chief political correspondent. This meant she would focus mainly on political news. She started hosting a weekend political talk show called Sunday Scrum. This show was later renamed Rosemary Barton Live on November 1, 2020. Rosemary still appears on The National. She hosts "At Issue" discussions with other political experts.
Rosemary's Education
Rosemary Barton studied at two universities. She went to the Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface. This is a French-speaking college connected to the University of Manitoba. She also studied at Carleton University.
