The Rosemount Museum (say it "Rose-mont") is a special historic house museum located in Pueblo, Colorado. It sits on a large block of land, high up in north Pueblo. Right across the street is the UCHealth Parkview Medical Center.
This amazing building is a huge, three-story mansion. It has an attic and a basement, with a total of thirty-seven rooms! The house is about 24,000 square feet in size. Construction began in 1891 and finished in 1893. It was built for John A. Thatcher and his family. A large carriage house, about 6,000 square feet, was also built on the property.

History of the Rosemount Museum
The Thatcher Family Home
John Thatcher moved to Colorado from Pennsylvania. He became very successful in the dry goods business. Later, he also got involved in banking, mining, and cattle ranching. In 1866, he married Margaret Ann Henry. She was from Platteville, Wisconsin.
The mansion was built using pink Rhyolite volcanic rock for its outside walls. Inside, many different kinds of wood were used. These included cherry, mahogany, maple, and oak. The Thatcher family lived in this grand home for many decades. John Thatcher passed away in 1913. His last living child, Raymond C. Thatcher, died in 1968.
Becoming a Museum
After Raymond's death, the mansion was given to the city of Pueblo. The city then gave the property to the Metropolitan Museum Association. In 1969, the Thatcher family created a special fund. This fund helped turn the mansion into a nonprofit house museum for everyone to enjoy.
Rosemount was one of the first places in Pueblo County to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. This happened on July 30, 1974. The Goodnight Barn was also added on the same day.
What You Can See at Rosemount
The Family's Belongings
When you visit the Rosemount Museum, you'll see the house and most of its furniture. They are still arranged just as they were when the Thatcher family lived there. It's like stepping back in time!
The Andrew McClelland Collection
On the third floor of the museum, you can find the Andrew McClelland collection. Andrew McClelland was a very rich businessman. He was also a friend of the Thatcher family.
